Fort Henry Daily Programming

Daily Programming includes a guided tour of Fort Henry National Historic Site, in addition to daily marching demonstrations by the Fort Henry Guard. These can include rifle firing demonstrations, music demonstrations, and artillery demonstrations. Our talented Fort Henry Guard and Domestic Interpreters will be stationed throughout the Fort to offer interpretation experiences. Guests must postpone their visit if they have developed symptoms of COVID-19, or have been in close contact with someone who has symptoms. Every guest must have a ticket including Children ages 0-4. If you can’t make your scheduled tour time, your original ticket will be honoured throughout the day when presented to admissions. Please note this does not apply to special events or prebooked group tours. Tickets are non-refundable.

Kingston Pen Architectural Tour

Dive deep into the early history of the buildings, the architects and planners responsible for drafting and building the institution, and the design philosophy of Canada’s oldest Penitentiary. A balanced blend of the architectural integrity and stylistic inclusions will be shared throughout this 1.5-hour tour, with opportunities to photograph the magnificent exterior and interior constructions. Please arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before the scheduled tour time as early access will not be granted. Guests will be required to wear masks, follow physical distancing, safety protocols and to stay with their guides. Guests should be prepared for the tour by wearing appropriate footwear for indoor, outdoor and uneven surfaces and are encouraged to bring an umbrella if desired for protection from rain or sun. This 2.5-hour tour covers the Standard Tour content as well as a more in-depth look behind the walls exploring the history of Kingston Penitentiary and Regional Treatment Centre.  Discover more of the site and hear about the history of additional areas, such as the hospital, gymnasium, and school.  With smaller group sizes the Extended Tour provides greater opportunity to connect with retired corrections staff and tour guides. This tour is designed for a mature audience and recommended for guests of 12 years of age and up. Those 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult or guardian. If a child 11 and under must attend the tour, please make a note in the special requirements field below. Fort Henry's Tattoo showcases drill and musical skills of various Canadian performing groups. Fife, Brass, and Pipe & Drum bands fill Fort Henry’s Parade Square with music, culminating in a massed bands grand finale and a stunning fireworks display! General Admission includes bleacher seating on a first-come, first-served basis. Gates open at 6:30pm and the show begins at 7:30pm.

Fort Henry's Tattoo showcases drill and musical skills of various Canadian performing groups. Fife, Brass, and Pipe & Drum bands fill Fort Henry’s Parade Square with music, culminating in a massed bands grand finale and a stunning fireworks display! Premium Reserved Seating is available on the elevated balcony level of Fort Henry, which includes a comfortable high-back chair with armrests for an optimal view of the performance. A freshly squeezed lemonade and chocolate chip cookie from our bakery is provided complimentary to all balcony patrons. Please note, the balcony level is reached by staircase only. Gates open at 6:30pm and the show begins at 7:30pm.

Upper Canada Village Daily Programming

Travel back in time as you tour the beautiful living history museum, at your own pace. Experience traditional farming techniques, demonstrated through the growing of heirloom vegetables and raising of heritage livestock breeds. Ornamental gardens throughout the village feature flora fashionable in the Victorian era. Weavers, spinners, and dressmakers demonstrate traditional handiwork. See historical trades being demonstrated and water-powered mills at work. Aspects of mid-19th century social life, music, religion, and politics are discussed and demonstrated by knowledgeable staff dressed in clothing of the period. To add to your experience, purchase a ticket for our Miniature Train. Guests will experience a fun and educational ride through Crysler Park. Guests must postpone their visit if they have developed symptoms of COVID-19, or have been in close contact with someone who has symptoms. Every guest must have a ticket including Children ages 0-4. If you can’t make your scheduled tour time, your original ticket will be honoured during the 2022 summer season when presented to admissions.
