Daily Programming includes a guided tour of Fort Henry National Historic Site, in addition to daily marching demonstrations by the Fort Henry Guard. These can include rifle firing demonstrations, music demonstrations, and artillery demonstrations. Our talented Fort Henry Guard and Domestic Interpreters will be stationed throughout the Fort to offer interpretation experiences. Every guest must have a ticket including Children ages 0-4. If you can’t make your scheduled tour time, your original ticket will be honoured throughout the day when presented to admissions. This fully accessible 45 minute guided tour offers an introductory experience of Kingston Penitentiary. You will visit many of the highlights of the institution, including the North Gate, a cell range, the canteen and social services area to hear about the 1971 riot, and more. Experience traditional farming techniques, demonstrated through the growing of heirloom vegetables and raising of heritage livestock breeds. Ornamental gardens throughout the village feature flora fashionable in the Victorian era. Weavers, spinners, and dressmakers demonstrate traditional handiwork. See historical trades being demonstrated and water-powered mills at work. Aspects of mid-19th century social life, music, religion, and politics are discussed and demonstrated by knowledgeable staff dressed in clothing of the period. If you can’t make your scheduled admission entry time or date your original ticket will be honoured during the 2024 summer season when presented to admissions.
